Built on the foundations of Roman ruins, from that period it has preserved the nar-row streets that create an exceptionally charming atmosphere. Another interesting feature is Umag's medieval urban structure, which in summer blends with the lively and warm Mediterranean setting.
Umag's heraldic symbol is the lion, whereas its tourist one is the tennis racket. The ATP tournament held for the first time at the beginning of the 90s in the magnificent tennis center Stella Maris situated at the seaside has won worldwide fame. The northwestern coastal tourist area stretches from the Bay of Piran and tourist village Kanegra to Savudrija, town with a wide offer of hotels, apartments, campsites as well as famous restaurants and wines. Situated between Savudrija and Umag are the renowned hotel tourist villages - Stella Maris, Polynesia and Katoro. There are several hotels in the very heart of the town and to the south of Umag lies the large and modern campsite Ladin Gaj.
Along the entire coast, in picturesque Lovrecica too, accommodation is offered in private houses. The official rating of most hotels and apartment villages is three stars. The Umag Riviera also caters for various guests: naturists or those wishing to spend a vacation in a 36-meter high lighthouse on Cape Savudrija, dating from 1818!
ACI marina Umag is the northernmost Istrian marina, situated in the town harbor in front of the Hotel Adriatic. The marina is open all year round, with a capacity of 518 berths and 120 boat places on land. Apart from the reception, exchange office, restaurant, toilets and showers, laundry and grocery store, the marina also provides other facilities for boaters, repair shop, ADAC and OAMTC service and information points. For its high eco-standards ACI marina Umag has been awarded the "Blue Flag".
